If you want to hear more in the music you know and love, Hear That Music! provides you with the practice you need. This unique flash card app plays real music performed by live musicians and quizzes you on the aural identification of musical concepts in the excerpt: What interval was that at the end of the phrase? What scale degree was the last note? What meter is the excerpt in? No sterile isolated tones. No chords divorced from their musical phrases. Hear that Music! helps you with the real musical skill of listening to real music.
Hear that Music! develops your listening skills by using the context of a musical phrase to help your aural analysis. Intervals, for instance, are identified after also identifying the scale degree of each note. With practice you will be thinking, "That must have been a minor third because the melody went up from scale degree 7 to 2 (from ti to re)." Since the identification of scale degree is in turn dependent on the identification of the key note, use Hear that Music! in conjunction with its sister app, Sing That Note! This Apple iOS app, also developed by G Major Music Theory, teaches the basic aural skill of identifying the key note in a musical phrase (otherwise known as "do" or tonic).
Stay in touch! Future versions of Hear that Music! will include the identification of chord quality, cadences, textures and more.
